Rich Fool

~ The Parable of the Rich Fool ~

Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:13-21)

Let that sink in for a moment.
So, if what Jesus tells you is deemed to be true, what are you going to do? Are you wasting your life on the wrong things?

It’s funny because, earlier this week, a song came on the radio while I was out and I couldn’t help but think about these very verses.

The song was “started from the bottom” by Drake. I’m sure most of you are familiar with it. “Started from the bottom now we here.”

The sad reality is those that believe they are first will be last. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. It is very clear that unless we repent (turn away from our sin) we will not inherit the kingdom of God.

No amount of money, women/men, possessions can purchase your ticket into heaven.

Still feel rich? Still feel like a “boss”? How are you going to respond to the real boss? If you hear his voice today, DON’T IGNORE HIM.

“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God.” (Luke 12:8-9)
